Care Home Category: Residential
Erwhir opened as a home for the elderly in May 1988. It is an imposing building standing in its own grounds not far from the town centre. Although originally built in the early years of the last century as two semi-detached houses it has been thoroughly modernised and has the outward appearance of always having been one property.
The home is centrally heated and a lift has been installed to enable both Service Users and visitors who have difficulty in negotiating the stairs to travel between the ground and upper floor. All our rooms are provided with vanity units, television points, and a call system in order to summon assistance at any time.
There is a Conservatory that Service Users are able to sit in and enjoy the late evening sunshine. This area is also an ideal place to sit alone or with relatives and friends and gives access to the decking area.
One double room and thirteen single rooms are provided between ground and first floor levels.
If Service Users wish to provide some of their own furniture this may be discussed prior to residency and we will try to accommodate them whenever possible.
We have a homely dining room where meals can be enjoyed in comfort but Service Users may take meals in their own rooms if desired.
We are within easy reach of the railway station, shops, Post Office, General Practitioner, bus stops and various Social establishments.

Erwhir is registered with Social Care Wales for 15 elderly people.
As people grow older they find it more and more difficult to cope on their own and to deal with the pressures and worries of modern life, and as a result become dependent on relatives and friends. As people today tend to live to a greater age the relatives and friends are themselves getting older and find the caring of a loved one difficult.
Our aim is to remove such difficulties and to look after your needs and care for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for as long as you wish to stay with us, be it short or long term.
We have had many years experience of running a home for the elderly, but here at Erwhir we are capably assisted by a caring, conscientious staff and together we will tend to all your needs. In so doing we strive to make your life as fulfilling as possible and to preserve your dignity.
With the exception of dry cleaning, all laundry is carried out on the premises without extra cost to the Service Users.
A traveling library provides a selection of large and small print books as well as talking books and music tapes, which restocks our own library.
District nurses, chiropodist, dentist and optician make visits. We also have our own visiting hairdresser although Service Users are free to use their own if preferred.
A mobile clothing company makes visits and we encourage friends and relatives to attend and make it a pleasurable and social occasion.
We feel it is a help to view the first three months as a trial period to allow Service Users to settle in. It is equally important to regularly review the individuals’ needs and aspirations to ensure that appropriate care is provided.
Our weekly fee includes full board and laundry.
We are happy to provide dry cleaning, papers, magazines, wines, spirits, tobacco and toiletries at extra cost, all of which can be discussed prior to residency.
We do not usually provide transport, however, in certain circumstances we will try to assist. There would be a charge for this service.
Social/entertainment events have proved to be such a major success that they have now become a regular occurrence.
